In this book, the available Tibetan source texts about the yogin Milarepaʼs life and his songs written from the 12th through the 15th century are compared and analysed considering the lineage in which they were transmitted. The comparison brings to light the evolutions in the content that eventually led to Tsangnyön Herukaʼs Life and Songs of Milarepa. This analysis allows us to evaluate the iconic image of Milarepa created by Tsangnyön Heruka and to read the songs from a new perspective, taking into account the context of the socio-political and doctrinal changes that occurred over time.
